EDITORIAL BY THE MAYOR
Depuis deux années le plus important évènement maritime de notre ville se déroule à l’automne. L’air et la lumière de notre « été indien » conviennent tout à fait aux évolutions des plus belles unités de vieux gréements. Les Voiles d’Antibes s’inscrivent désormais dans le circuit automnal et international des Yachts Classiques qui se déroule de fin aout à mi-octobre en méditerranée.
« Les voiles d’Antibes » se renouvellent ainsi dans un contexte sanitaire où de grandes incertitudes demeurent mais aussi en se projetant vers l’avenir. Ainsi en liaison avec le délégataire du Port Vau- ban, la société Vauban 21 qui lance un important chantier de rénovation du Port, la manifestation se rapproche de la vieille ville, de son animation et de ses nombreux commerces en s’installant dans le cadre très convivial du môle Sud. A n’en pas douter, les amoureux des plus beaux voiliers du monde et les nombreux participants aux diverses animations proposées par les organisateurs apprécieront gran- dement cette nouvelle proximité bénéfique à tout notre tissu commercial.
Cette 26e édition accueillera aussi la navigatrice, Alexia BARRIER, navigatrice antiboise qui au cours de son Vendée Globe est devenue pour nous un exemple de courage et de sportivité. La Voile nous offre ainsi souvent des histoires d’aventure et d’exemplarité tout en nous faisant, nous terriens, voyager dans les âges et sur la planète. C’est dans des ports comme celui d’Antibes que nous rencontrons les marins et les navires qui nous font tant rêver. Je remercie et félicite les organisateurs qui, dans des conditions parfois compliquées mais avec le soutien indéfectible de la Ville et de leurs nombreux parte- naires, organisent cette rencontre entre terre et mer, air et lumière pour le plus grand bonheur des habi- tants et des visiteurs d’Antibes Juan-les-Pins.
For two years the most important maritime event in our city has taken place in the fall. The air and the light of our “Indian summer” are perfectly suited to the evolutions of the finest units of classic yachts. “Les Voiles d’Antibes” is now part of the autumn and in- ternational circuit of Classic Yachts which takes place from late August to mid-October in the Mediterrane- an.
The Voiles d’Antibes are thus being renewed in a health context where great uncertainties remain but also while looking to the future. Thus in conjunction with the Vauban 21 company which is launching a major renovation project for the Port, the event is closer to the old town, its entertainment and its many shops by settling in a very friendly atmosphere from the South Pier. Without a doubt, lovers of the most beautiful sailing ships in the world and the many participants in the various activities offered by the organizers will greatly appreciate this new proximity, which is benefi- cial to our tradespeople
This 26 th edition will also welcome the sailor, Alex- ia BARRIER, a sailor from Antibes who during her Vendée Globe has become for us an example of courage and sportsmanship. Sailing often offers us stories of ad- venture and exemplarity while making us earthlings travel through the ages and on the planet. It is in ports like Antibes that we meet the sailors and ships that make us dream so much. I thank and congratulate the organizers who, in sometimes complicated conditions but with the unwavering support of the City and their many partners, are organizing this meeting between land and sea, air and light to the delight of residents and visitors of Antibes Juan-les-Pins
